North Ravine Reconciliation Ecology in Action
The concept of Reconciliation Ecology looks at the reality of human altered landscapes and looks for science based solutions to how we can continue to use the land and water for human benefit and at the same time maximize the ability to sustain the natural world. In California water use is one major area where we need reconciliation between the needs of fish and the needs of humans. In North Ravine, SARSAS, led by Robert Hane, is attempting te rehabilitate one small tributary of Auburn Ravine for the benefit of both humans and salmon.
When you first approach the North Ravine, it seems an unlikely place to support fish.
However, behind the gates of this small Christmas Tree farm, Robert Hane has restored a stream the historically has supported salmon and steel head.
