About SARSAS

Save Auburn Ravine Salmon and Steelhead, Inc.

Our mission

SARSAS is working to return salmon and steelhead to the entire 33-mile length of Auburn Ravine, with fish ultimately spawning in Auburn itself, in the Auburn School Park Preserve between City Hall and Placer High School and in Ashford Park on Auburn Ravine Road.

SARSAS is trying to do with one stream, Auburn Ravine, what must be done on streams and rivers all along the West Coast: make the entire length navigable for anadromous fish.

The health and well-being of salmon is directly linked to that of people. If we improve the health and well-being of salmon, we improve our own. Salmon are as resilient and adaptive as humans; when they can no longer adapt, neither can we. They need our help… now.

A model for California

SARSAS believes that opening the other 737 tributaries of California’s two great rivers is the way to keep endangered steelhead and threatened salmon from extinction on the West Coast. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife counted 7,000 salmonids per mile on Auburn Ravine, making it one of the richest streams in Northern California.
